Poland has strengthened its border with the Russian territory of Kaliningrad with a razor-wire fence. Authorities suspect the border may just turn out to be every other crossing level for other people making an attempt to go into the European Union.
It comes after experiences Moscow’s aviation authority has began to release flights from the Middle East and North Africa to Kaliningrad, in keeping with Poland’s Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.
“Soldiers of the Polish Army started putting in cord in this border, on all the land segment of the border with Russia,” Poland’s border guard spokesman Konrad Szwed stated.
“We are also planning to build an electronic barrier on this border.”
On Friday, the Polish border service also reported an increase in migrants trying to cross into the EU at its border with Belarus.
“We are not seeing many migrants from the Kaliningrad oblast right now, but it may become similar to the flow of people from Belarus, Agnieszka Legucka from the Polish Institute of International Affairs said.
“So, we are also observing contacts between Russia and Turkey. The reaction from the Polish authorities is a preventive policy.
“Russia does not have much time when it comes to the war in Ukraine, so it is trying to push many elements of blackmail towards the European Union, including migrants.”
Aid organisations are concerned about the conditions migrants will face if they make the journey.
“This is not a scenario we have thought about before. And actually, it is not surprising that such rumours, such movements in general, are starting to appear from the Russian side,” Kalina Czwarnóg from Ocalenie Foundation stated.
“From my point of view… the way in which individuals who will move this border can also be handled is essentially the most terrifying factor. Will they enjoy push-backs, similar to other people at the Belarusian border? It is not possible to me how lets push other people again into the aggressor’s nation.
Poland could also be getting ready for a brand new wave of refugees from Ukraine, as other people flee each the warfare and now the uncertainty of heating as wintry weather approaches.
