Yoga: Before Yoga Day, Indian Embassy organized yoga program in Beijing, Chinese citizens arrived in large numbers

International Yoga Day: A large number of Chinese yoga lovers participated in a yoga program organized by the Indian Embassy in Beijing on Saturday, ahead of the International Yoga Day 2022 celebrations. This day is usually celebrated with enthusiasm in China after the United Nations approved the proposal of International Yoga Day in the year 2014. Indian Ambassador to China Pradeep Kumar Rawat and Deputy Ambassador Dr. Aquino Vimal participated in a yoga program organized at India House here.

The Indian embassy said in a tweet that by connecting ‘I’ to ‘us’ and ‘us’ to ‘world’, yoga enthusiasts from Beijing came together this morning to awaken the common consciousness of yoga. Rawat said about the imperative of yoga in the era of epidemic that Covid is ‘time killer’ and yoga is ‘Covid killer’. He also spoke about the various programs organized by the embassy as well as digital campaigns which include asana series, photo and video competitions, ahead of this year’s International Day of Yoga.

75 yoga schools of China also associated with the program

Apart from the Indian consulates in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, 75 yoga schools from China also participated in Saturday’s program at the India House here. A special highlight of Saturday’s event was the stainless steel sculpture of ‘Dream Yoga’ by Beijing-based Indian artist Gurjinder Kaur. Several Chinese yoga teachers from different yoga schools participated in the hour-long yoga session.

International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June

It is worth noting that International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21st June. On the occasion of Yoga Day, people from all over the world gather to practice yoga together at various places like yoga studios, playgrounds, stadiums and parks. On 27 September 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the concept of International Yoga Day at the UNGA. On 11 December 2014, UNGA officially declared 21 June as ‘International Yoga Day’.

The main event will be held in Mysore this year

This year the main event of International Yoga Day 2022 will be held in Mysore, Karnataka. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21 from the Mysore Palace Ground. Around 15,000 people will do yoga in this program. The event will be organized in collaboration with Members of Parliament, Departments of the Government of Karnataka, Ministers, Yoga Gurus and some other institutions.

What is the theme of this year’s Yoga Day?

This year the theme of International Yoga Day 2022 is ‘Yoga for Humanity’. This theme has been chosen to reflect the role played by yoga during the Corona pandemic (COVID-19). During Corona, Yoga not only helped people to maintain their sanity but also made them recover soon.
