The European Parliament’s former vice chairman, Eva Kaili, is spending Christmas in prison after her alleged involvement in some of the EU’s greatest corruption scandals in historical past.
Greek MEP Eva Kaili is to be held in detention for any other month, after a ruling via a court docket in Belgium.
The former European Parliament vice chairman is suspected of being on the centre of some of the European Union’s greatest corruption scandals, and her attorneys had asked her unencumber from jail with a police monitoring instrument.
“Mrs Kaili is alone in a prison cell,” legal professional Michalis Dimitrakopoulos stated.
“Unfortunately, her 22-month-old child is alone as well. It’s Christmas and there is no one. Eva Kaili feels that she’s experiencing a disaster. Please, respect that.”
Belgian prosecutors accuse Eva Kaili of corruption, club in a felony group and cash laundering. She has been in custody since 9 December whilst her spouse Francesco Giorgi, an adviser on the European Parliament, may be jailed at the similar fees.
