North Korea’s First Female Foreign Minister: North Korea has named a top nuclear negotiator as the country’s first female foreign minister. State media gave this information on Saturday. This announcement has come amid warnings from the US that Pyongyang is preparing to conduct a nuclear test.

CNN, citing state-run outlet KCNA, reported that the appointment of career diplomat Choe Son Hui took place at a plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea on June 8-10. The meeting took place under the supervision of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

State media KCNA reported that Cho had previously held the post of deputy foreign minister. He replaced Ri Son Gwon, a hardline former military officer. Cho speaks fluent English.

Cho served as a close aide of Kim during the nuclear talks with the United States and was also involved in summits with the North Korean leader along with then US President Donald Trump.

The two leaders’ summit in Hanoi in February 2019 ended without a deal, the night he blamed Washington for the failed talks. Cho held a rare question-and-answer session with reporters, in which he said, “I think the United States has missed a golden opportunity by rejecting our proposals.”

Cho’s appointment in times of stress
Cho Son Hui’s appointment comes at a time of tension on the Korean peninsula as North Korea aggressively intensifies the Weapons Testing Program in defiance of UN sanctions.

US Special Representative for North Korea Policy Sung Kim warned on Tuesday that Washington believes North Korea is preparing to conduct a seventh nuclear test.

The International Atomic Energy Agency also said on Tuesday that North Korea was “preparing its nuclear test site.” The agency warned that the situation surrounding Pyongyang’s nuclear program is “very worrying as we have seen fast-forward in every row.” The agency told CNN about the Pungye-ri site based on the activity.

North Korea fired 17 missiles
This year alone, North Korea has operated 17 missiles, including two successful tests of projected intercontinental ballistic missiles.

However, in response to North Korea’s missile launch, South Korea and the US fired a Hyunmu-II ballistic missile and an Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missile in their rapid strike in the East Sea. Fired to establish capabilities.
