The embassy denied the visa ban
The Indian High Commission tweeted that the High Commission categorically denies that it or the Consulate General of India or the Assistant High Commission of India in Sri Lanka has prohibited the issuance of visas. In the last few days, there have been operational problems due to non-availability of our Visa Cell personnel to the office. Most of these personnel are Sri Lankan citizens. The High Commission said that we are trying to restore normalcy at the earliest and are committed to facilitate the travel of Sri Lankan citizens in India. Sri Lankan citizens are welcome in India just like Indians in Sri Lanka.
There is no improvement in the situation in Sri Lanka
Significantly, Sri Lanka is going through the worst economic crisis ever since its independence from Britain in 1948. In protest, people came out on the streets and started protesting. A few days ago, Mahinda Rajapaksa had to resign from the post of Prime Minister after violent clashes in view of the deteriorating economic situation of the country. After this, the Leader of the Opposition and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as the 26th Prime Minister of Sri Lanka on Thursday to provide stability to the country’s deteriorating economic situation. But the people there are also opposing Wickremesinghe.
