In its 15-year history, the Indian Premier League has emerged as a major league not only in the world of cricket but in the fields of sports. The BCCI is expected to make huge profits from the auction of media rights for the next five years of IPL. Along with this, the stature of IPL is also going to be bigger in all the leagues around the world. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has even claimed that the IPL is ahead of the English Premier League in terms of earnings.

There are speculations that IPL is going to become the second most expensive league in the world. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said, “I have seen cricket progressing. We earned a few thousand rupees in our beginning. But now players have the potential to earn crores. BCCI is running on the basis of fans only. Fans have made cricket. Cricket is going strong. IPL has earned more than the English Premier League. The love that cricket has got has made this game stronger.

IPL set to go ahead

Let us tell you that the BCCI had earned about Rs 17,000 crore from the media rights auction for the last five years. This meant that BCCI was earning around Rs 65 crore per match from media rights auction. That is why the IPL was at number four in terms of earnings in all the leagues around the world.

But now with the auction of new media rights, it is believed that the IPL will move from fourth to second place. At present, a match of National Football League earns Rs 133 crore. It is now believed that BCCI will earn more than Rs 100 crore from the media rights of an IPL match. At the same time, media rights earnings per match in the English Premier League is Rs 84 crore.
