Ukraine Civilians Evacuated From Mariupol: The United Nations, in a joint operation with the Red Cross, has successfully evacuated 101 civilians from the tunnels of the Azovstal Steel Plant in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol. The UN gave this information on Tuesday. “I am pleased and relieved to confirm that 101 civilians have been successfully evacuated from the Azovstal Steel Plant in Mariupol,” Osnat Lubrani, Ukraine’s Humanitarian Coordinator for the United Nations, said in a statement.

Lubrani said the evacuation lasted five days and that “101 women, men, children and the elderly finally left the bunkers under the Azovstal steelworks and saw daylight after two months.” Let us tell you that Ukrainian civilians and soldiers have been trapped for weeks at the huge steel plant in the city of Mariupol, which has been besieged by the Russian army since the start of its attack. The evacuated people were brought to the central city of Zaporizhzhya, which is under Ukrainian control.

‘There may be more people trapped’
Lubrani warned that “there could be more civilians who could remain trapped” and said the United Nations was ready to return to the besieged plant again to rescue them. He said another 58 people could be trapped outside Mariupol. Joined the evacuation convoy from the city. The evacuation was agreed after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ visit to Moscow and Kyiv.

Red Cross said – some civilians were injured
The Red Cross also confirmed the successful evacuation in a separate statement. It said some of the evacuated civilians were injured. The Red Cross said it was “hoping that more people would be able to attend”, as there was an “urgent” need for more evacuations. However, it said it was a “huge relief” that 101 civilians were out of the plant. The Red Cross said it has not forgotten the people who are still there.” The Red Cross vowed to “leave no stone unturned to reach them (the people trapped in the plant).”
