Rishabh Pant has been in the news since assuming the command of Team India in the T20 series against South Africa. India had to face defeat in the first two matches, after which questions were raised on the captaincy of Rishabh Pant. Along with this, Rishabh Pant’s bat remained silent in this entire series. Former BCCI selector Madan Lal believes that Rishabh Pant needs to go a long way before becoming the captain.
However, Rishabh Pant was made the vice-captain of the team for the South Africa series. But due to the injury of KL Rahul, the command of the team came in the hands of Pant. Madan Lal says that Pant needs to work on his batting now and after that that thing will be reflected in his leadership.
Pant is in the race for captaincy
Madan Lal said, “I would have prevented Rishabh Pant from becoming the captain. I don’t let that happen. Such a player should be given the responsibility later. Being the captain of Team India is a big deal. Pant is young and he is not going anywhere right now. The longer he plays, the better.
Rishabh Pant is being seen as the future captain of Team India. Madan Lal compared Pant to Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. He said, “Right now Pant should be given two more years. Only after that he should think of going to become the captain. If he takes his game forward, he can be a good captain. Dhoni remained a calm and cool captain. Virat Kohli was a great batsman. Pant also has to show something like this.
