World Champion Boxer MC Mary Kom Injury Update: India’s star boxer MC Mary Kom seems to be in trouble. After his injury, now the doctor has advised surgery. In such a situation, he may have to stay away from boxing for a long time. Six-time world champion Mary Kom has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and will have to undergo a reconstructive surgery to recover.
The Olympic medalist twisted her left knee in her 48kg semi-final bout against Haryana’s Neetu during the Women’s Indian Boxing Commonwealth Games 2022 selection trials in Delhi on Thursday, causing her problems again. The Indian boxing ace got a scan done on Saturday. The doctor treating him has suggested him to undergo surgery again.
Mary Kom became the first Indian woman boxer to win the CWG gold medal in Gold Coast 2018. A report by olympics.com said the London 2012 bronze medalist has been prescribed ice and knee support in addition to medication.
The severity of the injury comes as a major setback for 39-year-old Mary, who is in the late stages of her career. Mary Kom told the New Indian Express, “This has never happened to me before and I am struggling to recover from it. I am sure I will be back in my old form soon.”
