Lalit Modi on IPL: The statement of former IPL chairman Lalit Modi has come on the sale of IPL Media Rights for more than 48 thousand crores from the year 2023 to 2027. He has said that the things he has been saying about the future of IPL since 2008, have come true consistently and will continue to happen. Lalit Modi said that the next time media rides will be sold again at double the price and this league will also become the world’s number-1 sports league.

Talking to NDTV, Lalit Modi said, ‘I have always said that its media rights will double every 3 to 4 years. If you look at my interviews from 2008, you will find that I have spoken many times about doubling of IPL value in the matter of media rights. There was a jump of 98% last time in the prices of media rights and this time also there has been an increase of 98%. It will keep doubling like this in future also.

Modi says, “It will definitely outshine the rest of the league.” I have always said that the IPL will become the world’s No. 1 sports league if not today or tomorrow. It will all depend on innovation in OTT platforms. During this time, Modi also says that the value of digital rights of IPL should be more than that of television rights. Modi says, ‘If we keep doing the right thing in the field of digital, then you will see that digital will overtake television in terms of viewership and revenue. I think in the next 3 to 4 years, digital rights will become three to four times as expensive as television rights. We just need to do the right thing in this area.

Lalit Modi also mentions one of his predictions regarding IPL. He says, ‘I always used to say that there will be no effect of recession on IPL. People used to laugh at me. Now this is also proving to be true. There is a recession in India at the moment, but despite this, the number of people watching it is probably the highest in the world.

Lalit Modi was the first chairman and commissioner of IPL. The IPL progressed under his leadership from 2008 to 2010. IPL is said to be his brainchild. He was also the Vice President of BCCI from 2005 to 2010. He left India in the year 2010 only after allegations of tax evasion, money laundering.
