Gujarat Titans all-rounder Rahul Teotia is seen in a wonderful rhythm in this season of IPL. So far, he has scored 179 runs with a strong average of 44.75 and an explosive strike rate of 161.26. The most important thing is that this all-rounder, who batted at number six for Gujarat, has played match-winning innings for his team thrice this season.

Against RCB, he was the ‘Player of the Match’ by playing a blistering innings of 43 runs off 25 balls. At the same time, against Punjab Kings, he had won the match for his team by hitting two sixes in the last two balls. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad too, he along with Rashid Khan gave a thrilling victory to his team by sharing 59 runs off 24 balls. In the rest of the matches too, he has been batting and scoring the necessary runs for his team. In the past, many former cricketers have been seen appreciating this wonderful performance of Rahul Teotia. Sunil Gavaskar has also been one of them. He calls Teotia the ‘Iceman’. In a conversation with Star Sports, he has given the reason for Tewatia’s performance and calling him ‘Iceman’.

Says Gavaskar, “Five sixes in an over against Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjahan gave Tewatia the confidence to do the impossible. This confidence has brought him here today. In that season we saw that he played big shots with the bat the next day as well. When he bats in the death overs, he does not touch the pad again and again (batsmen often touch the pad under pressure) he just waits for the ball and plays his shot. Every shot is in his book. The most important thing is that he remains calm even in pressure situations.

Gavaskar says, ‘I call him ‘Iceman’ because he just stands there (the crease) and doesn’t show any tension. He guesses the ball and knows which shot he has to play. It is clear in his mind that if the ball falls there, he will play his favorite shot. And whenever the ball hits the middle of his bat, it is always a six. That’s what makes him an ‘iceman’ because he doesn’t bother at all while batting.
