Vodafone Idea, Reliance Jio And telecom companies including Airtel had increased the prices of their prepaid plans only last year. Now that there may be a big setback for the customers, Airtel is all set to increase the price of its prepaid plans. The news was confirmed by the company’s CEO Gopal Vittal. He revealed that Airtel is likely to hike the price again in 2022. This time, the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) will be fixed at Rs 200.

According to a report, Airtel is not happy with the telecom regulator’s base price of 5G. “The industry had expected a sharp reduction in prices; While there has been a shortfall, it is not enough and is disappointing in that sense,” Vittal said during the earnings call. Last year, all the three privately owned mobile operators had increased the plan prices by around 18-25 per cent.

Telecom operators are not happy with TRAI’s recommendation for 5G reverse price. Companies were insisting on reducing the 5G reserve price by 90 percent.

Vittal said of the tariff hike, “My own understanding is that we should start seeing some tariff hikes during this year. I believe the tariffs are still very low at that level. First port of call is 200 which will require at least one hike, Vittal said, adding that customers will be able to bear the blow. The new price hike will be only a temporary setback. Despite the price hike, Airtel added more 4G users (5.24). million).
